| Article from Manchester Evening News ....  A FARMER'S field, which is surrendering its ancient Roman secrets, is to be the site of a major dig. Experts from Manchester universities archaeological unit and South Trafford archaeological group am bringing in specialist X-ray equipment to assist with the dig in autumn. It follows more than two years work on the field, in Warburton, near LYMM, by 37-year-old amateur archaeologist James Balme. The financial controller from nearby Rixton has unearthed rare finds, including coins which show the field was once the site of a large Roman settlement. <<< back |
